Manikchak College established in 2014 at the Manikchak Block of Malda District in a backward region with the assistance of some local people and renowned philanthropists, interested in making education accessible to the marginalized and the underprivileged ones of the area and is presently the youngest member among the colleges of Malda district affiliated to the University of Gour Banga. At present the College offers Bachelor of Arts with eight major subjects. This Institution is Government aided degree College recognized by University Grants Commission u/s 2(f) and 12(B). Most significantly in a very short time span from it’s inception College achieved NAAC accreditation with “B” grade for first cycle in 2023. College also participates in NIRF 2024.
Main aim of the College based upon three “E”s viz. ‘Education for inclusiveness’, ‘Empowerment of the marginalized’ and ‘Excellence throughout’. As an Institution located in rural area, the main thrust of our input-process-output system is the optimal utilization of available resources both physical and human. Though the work impetus of our Institution, in general, is shaped by such thrusting, we always prioritize students’ all round development above everything else. Such prioritizing has had a number of significant manifestations. Curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities are the important tools to achieve the main goal.
The Institution introduces a well planned curriculum for NEP 2020 and Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) approved by the affiliating University. The purpose of this initiative is clearly to make a student-centric teaching-learning process. Instead of teacher-centric conventional teaching methods, our Institution firmly believes that student-centric learning methods enhance students' lifelong learning skills. This has a direct impact on improving comprehension levels, communication skills, problem solving skills, listening skills, etc. Our Institution ensures student-centric methods that effectively used in regular academic practice as it makes students more self-reliant and self-motivated and makes learning interesting as well as effective.
We have a group of young, energetic, student friendly, research oriented faculty team. Our faculty members ensure that students get the benefits of experiential learning by encouraging them to go on field trips, do dissertations, present their dissertations and participate in various activities that nourish cultural, physical and mental awareness. They try to adopt our students with social mobility and use ICT tools for better understanding of content matter towards abstract to concrete direction. A group of non-teaching staff always ready to help students in all dimension academic and non-academic both. Particularly in scholarship sector they perform a spectacular job that heads forward achieving rewards by the Institution for every year.
The use of ICT tools in teaching has made the teaching-learning process vibrant, natural, and lively. Moreover, the use of ICT tools in teaching-learning also has a very positive effect on the learning ability of the students. Students taught through the usage of ICT tools develop a better understanding of subjects, grow interest in pursuing the topics further and are gradually encouraged to start using ICT tools themselves by the faculty members of our college. The lecture delivery method in the Institution is mixed. Both the traditional chalk-talk method and ICT based method are used by the faculty on regular basis. Most of the classrooms are made of ICT based and pandemic situation directs us for exercising the blended mode of teaching learning process through virtual classroom.
In order to attune our College's governance and leadership with the vision and mission of our Institution, the administration and employees have collectively developed a number of strategies. Manikchak College has adopted the basic advantages of technology especially online activities like admission via only merit basis, admission fees payment, examination fees payment, attendance, class test, continuous internal assessment, notice circulation, bulk message, feedback collection, accounts etc. Institution maintains two parallel websites for smooth conduction of administrative and admission=examination works. Institution is active in social media with it’s official pages and presence for wide circulation of institutional message and bipolar communication.
Our College Library is still at its nascent stage due to a number of setbacks, particularly a ransacking of the College Library prior to College’s own building (late 2017). Eventually, the College purchased learning resources and daily newspapers on regular basis. We transformed the College library as an automated library through KOHA software since the academic session 2022-23. Presently the College library has a capacity of around 10000 books and has subscription to the e-resources from N-List.
The College has been contributing significantly to the educational and overall development of the rural area it is surrounded by. Unavailability of adequately developed communication system had deprived the people from a wide areas from higher education. The presence of Manikchak College has significantly improved this situation by bringing quality education and various facilities closer to the population of these remote areas. The College aims to make its global presence in the field of higher education and hope all the stakeholders extend their hands with all achievable efforts for making the feasible and accessible road map.
